Bhubaneswar: It was a musical nite with a difference. The Jadumani Dash Memorial Samman, 2018 was conferred on classical singer Keshab Rout and mardal player Jagannath Kuanr at Soochana Bhawan here Wednesday evening.
Hosted by Jadumani Dash Memorial Foundation, as part of its Eighth anniversary, eight promising local singers recited a variety of classical Odia songs, devotional as well as Hindi movie numbers to the elation of the
audience.
The inaugural programme commenced with Odia bhajan Akash dise ki sundar taku rachile Iswara sung by Nrusingha Prasad Dash, Chirag Panigrahi, Durgashree Sarangi, Shiv Prasad Sarangi and Neha Niharika Kar.
Playwright Chandrasekhar Rath and poet Biranchi Narayan Satpathy gave away the Judumani Dash Memorial Samman to Keshab Rout and mardal player Jagannath Kuanr for their contribution to Odia music world.
The opening group song was followed by a Hindi number Shyam Teri Bansi Pukare Radha Naam from the movie Geet Gata Chal, which was presented by Ipsita Panda.
Shiv Prasad Sarangi sang Puchona kaise meine raina bitai, from the movie Meri Surat Teri Aankhe. He also sung Aaj kal yaad kuch rehta nahi, from the movie Nagina and Odia song Duniya Janena.
Neha Niharika and Chirag sang a duet Tere mere beech mein (Ek Duuje Ke Liye). Ruke ruke se kadam was sung by Moonmoon Pattnaik who also sang Aab ke sajan sawan mein (Chupke Chupke), followed by a duet Kora kagaz tha jeewan mera, presented by Ipshita and Chirag. The former sang Solah barash ki bali umar ko salam. It was followed by Laga chunri mein daag chhupaun kaise, a Hindi number and an Odia song, Jajabara mana moro, presented by Chirag.
Nrusingha Prasad Dash was the last performer who regaled the audience with classical Odia number Sei meetha meetha fagunoro.
