Bhubaneswar: The state government will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the East Coast Railway (ECoR) for implementation of Railway Station Multimodal Hub Project here January 20.
Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Vice-Chairman Krishan Kumar and Khurda Road Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Braj Mohan Agarwal will sign the agreement in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Secretariat.
Construction on the multimodal hub at the city railway station will start soon after the signing of the MoU as all necessary preparations have been completed, official sources said here Wednesday.
The government has finalised the design. The multimodal hub will be developed under the Smart City scheme.
BDA will fund the entire project. The overall project cost would be around `500 crore, the sources said.
The project, to be developed by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), will come up on the railway station and its surrounding areas.
As per the approved plan, a multi-storeyed building will come up at the entrance of the station with the state-of-the-art amenities, commercial complexes, multi-level parking, bus terminal, rainwater harvesting systems, fire-fighting facilities, etc. The hub will come up on about 1.74 lakh sq ft of area.
After development of the hub, the BDA will hand it over to the ECoR for its use and maintenance. There will be two entry and exit points for the hub.
The built-up area coming under the jurisdiction of railway will have its own boundary while the area coming under BDA will have its own entrance gates, the sources said.
There will be a three-tier monitoring mechanism for successful implementation of the project. A high-power steering committee will be headed by chief secretary while BDA vice chairman will lead the coordination panel and the field level team by BDA chief engineer.
