Bhubaneswar, May 21: In a continuation of the extreme hot and humid conditions, the regional weather office recorded the season’s highest temperature of 45.4 degree Celsius at Jharsuguda Thursday.
With clear skies, as many as 16 places in the state have experienced temperature above 40 degree Celsius mark – of this, six areas recorded mercury levels above 44 degree Celsius, including Jharsuguda. Hirakud recorded 44.8 degree C while temperature remained at 44.5 degree C at Sambalpur, Titilagarh and Bhawanipatna. Balangir recorded 44.2 degree C.
In the state capital, mercury remained as high as 41 degree Cs with humidity at 78 per cent. The Meteorological centre in the capital predicted cloudy skies, with temperature and humidity to remain same over the city till Friday evening. Heat wave conditions would prevail over interior and north coastal Orissa till May 26. “The cyclonic circulation over the neighbouring Bay of Bengal favours the flow of hot and dry northwesterly wind.
The system would result in high temperature over most parts of the state. The condition is likely to continue till May 26,” said Met director Sarat Sahu.
The weather office also warned of very high temperature over the interior pockets.
