Choudwar: The carcass of a female elephant calf was found near Jamena village under Dalijada forest range Wednesday. According to Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Manoranjan Swain, villagers informed the forest officials after spotting the dead jumbo calf early in the morning. The forest officials reached the spot and recovered the carcass before sending it for autopsy, he added. “An elephant herd from Athagarh forest division had strayed into Jamena area three days ago. It is suspected that other elephants might have trampled the one-month-old calf before leaving for Ambilijhari forest,” said the ACF.
