Bhubaneswar: Utkal Karate School felicitated Wednesday the medal-winning karatekas who participated in the recently-concluded Kai Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior & U-21 National Karate Championships at the Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi, May 10-13. The Orissa martial art exponents bagged 14 medals, including two gold, three silver and nine bronze.
Payal Baral and Bonali Das bagged a gold medal each. Two silver medals were won by Madhupriya Bai and Bhagaban Reddy while one came in the kata team event, comprising Udit Udam, Sanket Kumar Nayak, who also bagged a bronze in the individual segment, and Anshuman Behera.
Among the nine bronze medals, eight came in individual events while one came in team kata. Ritesh Mohanty, Rithik Mohapatra, Jyoti Ranjan Nayak, Shubhranshu Das, Gitanjali Kishan, Saranya Rai, Sanket and Loma Swain were the individual bronze medal-winners while Saranya was also part of the kata team along with Diptirani Nayak and Upasana Sahu.
Orissa sports and youth affairs minister Chandra Sarathi Behera was present at the ceremony to felicitate the medallists.
Summer camp
The summer cricket camp, organised by the Town Club, concluded at the club ground here, Wednesday. The 17-day camp had started May 1. The junior and sub-junior cricketers were taught the basics of batting, bowling, fielding, physical fitness and the rules of the game. Former Orissa cricketer Rasmi Ranjan Parida was present as chief guest for the closing ceremony and spoke at length about the things, the kids need to do to become successful cricketers.
