Ashgabat (Turkmenistan): India’s Sourav Kothari overcame a stiff challenge from former World Billiards champion Praprut Chaitanasakun of Thailand to win the gold medal in the Asian Indoor Games here Monday. The Kolkata-based Kothari won 3-1 (100-80, 101-0, 29-101, 101-88). The Thai cueist was leading 88-12 in the fourth frame. Had he won that the match would have gone into the super frame tie-breaker. However, needing just 12 points to win the fourth frame Praprut committed an error giving Kothari a chance which he grabbed. The Indian showed nerves of steel as he compiled an unfinished break of 89 points to win the frame and the match.
