HIMANSHU GURU, OP
There are hit films with the female lead playing the role of a courageous cop. Priyanka Chopra in Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangajal, Hema Malini in Andha Kanoon, Rekha in Phool Baney Angare, Dimple Kapadia in Zakhmi Aurat, Tabu in Drishyam and Rani Mukherjee in Mardani, have played the cop’s role to perfection. Even in Oriya films Archita Sahu played a cop in ACP Sagarika.
Oriya actress Anubha Sourya has joined this league by playing the role of a cop in Bajarangi, the first film to cast Amlan and Anubha as the lead pair. The Bini Pattnaik directed film also casts veterans Siddhant Mohapatra, Naina Das and Asit Pati in leading roles.
“I have done only soft characters so far and never played the role of a cop. I am not a tough girl in real life,” says Anubha. So, how did she manage to execute the role? “I took more foods than usual as I had to look a tad sturdy. It is also a loud role. So I prepared accordingly. I am technically sound in filmology. It helped me,” she adds.
So, what does the demure actress expect from the audience? Anubha smiles and replies: “My introduction in the film is with a slap. Thus I expect a lot of whistles and claps in the theatre.”
Bajarangi is Bini’s third directorial venture after Hai Darling (2012) and Jhiata Bigidigala (2016). About the title of the movie the director says: “Bajarangi is the name of a character in the film and it has nothing to do with religion. It is an action drama.”
“We have released the film at a time when there is hardly any competition from other releases. It was released in about 80 theatres across the state. Besides, the pre-release popularity of the item number, ‘Mo Haladigina’, will help draw audiences to the theatres,” the director adds.
Moon Movies’ Bajarangi also stars Pragnya Khatua and Mitu Mithun. Producer Sachikanta Jena has penned the story while the screenplay and dialogues are by Rajaniranjan. The tracks have been composed by Prem Anand to the lyrics of Subrata Swain and Basantaraj Samal. Pranay Jethy is the publicity designer of the film that released November 3.
