Phulbani:
The Phulbani POCSO Court sentenced a rape convict to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 after convicting him of raping a minor girl Saturday.
The convict was identified as Biswamitra Nayak of Gudribadi village.
The court ruled that if the convict failed to deposit the amount, he would undergo an additional three years and four months in jail. The court directed that the fine will be given to the rape survivor.
According to the case diary, the incident occurred while the Class X student of Raikia was going to her school. Meanwhile, Nayak who was waiting for the girl, kidnapped her on a van and took her to his house October 20, 2014..
He then kept her in his house wherein he repeatedly raped her on the pretext of marriage.
Following the complaint from the girl’s mother, Sarangada police rescued the victim and arrested Biswamitra.
The accused was booked under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
