Bhubaneswar: A woman, Sasmita Singh (27), was stoned to death by her husband, Harjit Singh (32) of Amritsar, near Malianta Pokhari under Laxmisagar police limits here November 14 night.
After killing his wife, Harjit surrendered before Laxmisagar police, sources said.Harjit, a daily labourer, was in an inebriated state and was having an argument with his wife, according to preliminary investigations. In a fit of rage, he hit her head with a pestle, killing her on the spot.Sasmita’s body was sent to Capital Hospital for an autopsy.
Twin city police commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma said that it was learnt during investigation that domestic issues were the reason behind the crime.
“Harjit was not going to work for several days and this used to lead to fights between the couple on a regular basis. The two fought Saturday night during which Harjit hit his wife with a pestle,” sources said.A case has been registered. Harjit was produced in court Sunday, police said.The two, who reportedly tied the knot six years ago, have a four-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy. They were staying in rented accommodation.
