Sambalpur: Kuchinda police Monday arrested a man while trying to sell fake gold ornaments at a jewellery shop in Kuchinda.
A case was registered and the accused was forwarded to the court and remanded in custody after the court rejected his bail plea.
Identified as Yogesh Chouhan, 27, hailing from Haryana, the man reached Ambika Jewellery shop at Kuchinda and showed some imitation gold ornaments to the salesman.
The salesman then asked Chouhan to produce receipt of the ornaments, but when the latter failed to produce receipts, the salesman examined the ornaments and found those to be fake.
The salesman immediately contacted the police, who reached the spot and apprehended the fraudster. Two necklaces, two mobile phones, and Rs 2,000 were seized from him.
During the investigation, police found that two associates of the accused, who were waiting outside the shop, fled after Chouhan was nabbed. Preliminary probe revealed a racket was working behind the fake gold ornaments.
They target jewellery shops and sell ornaments at high prices. A case has been registered and probe into involvement of more persons has been launched, Kuchina police said.
