Salipur: A man was killed and four members of his family sustained critical injuries after they were assaulted by their kin with sharp-edged weapons over a land dispute at Balia Shankarpur village under this block in Cuttack district Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Kaifayat Ali (36), son of Haijayat Ali (70) and resident of a slum in Balia Shankarpur village.
The injured Haijayat, Enayat Ali, Janera Biwi and Taira Biwi were admitted to Salipur hospital from where the latter three were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated. Four persons were arrested in this connection.
The incident occurred after Haijayat’s married daughter Rasna Biwi and her family members staked claim over a piece of land in possession of the former and decided to construct a house on it. The latter forcibly took possession of the land Sunday and started digging the land for laying the foundation of a house.
Haijayat, accompanied by his sons Enayat Ali (40) and Kaifayat Ali (36) and other family members, rushed to the spot and resisted their move.
On the other hand, Rasna, her husband Babbar Hussain, sons Habil Hussain (30), Kamil Hussain (28), Jamil Hussain (26), daughters Reshma Biwi (30) and Najim Biwi (17) refused to listen to them and warned to carry out the house construction works.
This led to a scuffle between the two groups and Habil hit his uncle Kaifayat with a crowbar. Profusely bleeding, Kaifayat collapsed on the spot and died.
Rasna and her family members went on to attack Haijayat’’s family members and rendered four of them critical. Locals rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to the Salipur hospital.
Salipur SDPO Pradyumna Kumar Jena and IIC Prasant Kumar Majhi reached the spot and arrested Babbar and her three sons while some managed to escape. PNN
