Patna (Keonjhar): In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old man was beaten to death at Angikala under Patna block of Keonjhar district late Saturday night on the suspicion that he was a ghost.
Though this may seem incredible, such incidents rarely raise eye-brows in some rural regions of the state where superstitions and black magic are prevalent even in the age of rocket science. Therefore, when some villagers of Angikala saw Krushna Chandra Nayak on the dark amavasya (new moon) night, they mistook him for a ghost.
According to reports, Nakula Nayak and Shyam Nayak, residents of Chhelianala, had come to Angilaka that night to inform their relative Sahadev Nayak about their mother’s demise. As it was late and dark outside, the two brothers decided to spend the night at their relative’s place.
Around midnight, Nakula went to nearby filed to relieve himself. As it was very dark outside, Shadev’s cousin, Krushna Nayak, who too was outdoor for some work, was shocked to see Nakula. He started hitting Nakula mistaking him to be a ghost.
However, Nakula retaliated and snatched away the lathi from Krishna. Subsequently, he started hitting Krushna believing the latter to be a ghost.
Following the continuous assult, Krushna’s condition became critical following the continuous assault. As his condition deteriorated he was taken to the district headquarters hospital where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment.
After Krushna’s death, his relatives lodged a complaint with the Turumunga police, who arrested Nakula, said IIC Satyajit Das.
