Bhubaneswar: At the ongoing MMA Championships at the Utkal Karate School here, there is one fighter who has been attracting attention for his show in the Octagon – Pushkar Singh Kunwar of Uttarakhand. During his fight Saturday, he again showed his superior ring craft to beat Mayur Prasad of Chhattisgarh and enter the final of the 65kg segment. Earlier, he had won three bouts on the inaugural day, Friday to book his last four spot.
The man who wants to be a professional MMA fighter in future said after his bout that he did not enjoy the fight fully, as his opponent was nervous and could not challenge him properly. “While fighting, I felt that there should be at least some challenge for me. So I gave him few chances. But he (Prasad) continued to be defensive,” informed Pushkar.
Currently Pushkar is training under Vijay Saini in New Delhi. “I had a passion for physical sports from my childhood. I love adventure and want to do something different in life. However, I was late in realising that MMA is my best bet. Otherwise I think I would have been a top-level fighter by now,” asserted Pushkar.
Pushkar wants build a career as a pro MMA fighter and if possible join the UFC. Hopefully my dreams will come true in the next couple of years,” he stated with confidence. He wants to pursue MMA, even though his parents and other family members are against it.
Meanwhile in the other bouts fought on the day, Ariz Ahmed beat Dheeraj Kumar, Madhukar Reddy overcame Satwik of Mysore after a hard-fought battle and Mayank Joshi of New Delhi walloped Chandan from Bihar.
