Bhubaneswar: Two miscreants, who had hailed a cab, robbed its driver of cash along with his mobile phone at Tapoban chowk under Khandagiri police station in the wee hours of Thursday.
Cab driver Banesh Kumar Mahakud has been staying at Bharatpur, on the outskirts of the city.
According to police sources, the miscreants had booked the cab through Uber app at around 5 am. At first, the duo asked Mahakud to come near Kalinga Studio area but later asked him to come near Tapoban square.
After Mahakud reached the place, the duo attacked him with sharp weapons. Mahakud tried to fight back but in vain and thus, sustained severe injuries on his right hand.
The desperadoes snatched away the driver’s mobile phone, cash worth Rs 12,000 and also ran away with the car after throwing him out of it.
Later, the passersby spotted an injured Mahakud and rushed him to Capital hospital here. His condition was stable when the last report came in.
Khandagiri police have started investigation into the matter after registering a case (283/18) under section 394 of the IPC.
