Khurda: In yet another ATM loot case, miscreants ransacked an ATM counter in Nirakarpur town area of Khurda district and decamped with cash worth over Rs 10 lakh Saturday night.
The matter came to the fore after locals spotted the broken ATM Sunday morning and alerted the police. A case was registered and the police launched a manhunt to nab the gang of miscreants.
Preliminary investigation revealed the miscreants entered into the ATM of the Axis Bank near the College Square by breaking open the lock of the room. Later they looted the cash after cutting the ATM cash box with a gas cutter. Before leaving the area, they broke the CCTV and took away the hard disk.
The incident may have taken place at about 2 am, police said.
Though the exact amount of the cash looted from the ATM was not immediately known, the Axis Bank officials said since they had deposited Rs 15 lakh cash in the ATM a couple of days ago, a maximum Rs 3-4 lakh might have been withdrawn by the customers while the remaining was looted.
Police suspect the involvement of an inter-state gang in the incident. Meanwhile, a scientific team has begun an on-the-spot investigation.
In another incident, another ATM has been looted in Konark area of Puri district on the same day.
