BHUBANESWAR: A training program Mission Sahasi – Self defence training and mass demonstration program for girls was organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Baramunda Ground here Tuesday.
Mission Sahasi is a joint project of Vidyarthi Nidhi Trust and ABVP. The program would equip girls with techniques of self-defence. The mission aims to connect half of the population through its campaign. About 1000 girls from various colleges and universities participated in the programme.
Actress Archita Sahu and experts from the fields of sports, literature and cinema joined the training to encourage girls. Trainers of Utkal Karate School, Bhubaneswar imparted the training techniques.
Ipsita Tripathy, a member of the team, said, “We have witnessed an upward trend in violence against women in recent times. Such violence has to be countered with overwhelming force. The mission has been started as an endeavour to embolden, empower and equip women to counter harassment. Similar training would be imparted to more than 15 lakh girl students across the country under this mission.
We live in an era where women have excelled in almost all fields that they venture into. From corporate to social avenues, women have proved to be as proficient as men. However, a considerable proportion of women are held back by various social conventions. We have witnessed some of the worst cases of atrocity against women. The society has risen up to demand justice for the victims. The youth body has been a rallying point not just for candle marches and protests but for a larger purpose of creating awareness among women.
