Bhubaneswar: Motorists who are struggling to find space for parking their vehicles will have to wait for one more year for the much awaited multi level car parking (MLCP) facility at Sahid Nagar to be ready.
The city is going to have two MLCPs. While one is planned at Sahid Nagar, the other will come up in Unit II area and both will be under the Smart City Project.
The MLCP building at Sahid Nagar on which the work started Monday is expected to be completed by January 2019. It shall have two basements, ground and above floors that will accommodate at least 250 equivalent car spaces (ECS). It is a unit of measuring an area to hold passenger cars.
All the floors above the parking facility shall be commercial with a minimum 38,000 sq ft of saleable space. The building will be developed in accordance with Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) norms making it eligible for GRIHA 3-star certification, a BDA official said.
While the building shall be suitably designed for senior citizens, children, and differently-abled based on prevailing norms and standards, various factors like the accessibility and efficiency of vehicular movement for MLCP area in compliance with prevailing building standards, fire norms and structural standards shall be taken into consideration.
The building shall be equipped with intelligent building management system, including emergency facilities, smart utilities etc. The building envelop shall be designed taking into consideration the thermal comfort and climatic conditions of Bhubaneswar. Provision for solar roof top installation shall be made, it is learnt.
The MLCP building in Unit II area is envisaged to have 450 ECS in the two basements, ground floor as well as first, second and third floors, while the three upper floors (4, 5 & 6) will be built as commercial spaces.
Both the MLCPs will be connected to the Intelligent City Operations and Management Centre (ICOMC) in future.
