Koraput: The Central University of Orissa (CUO) Sunday celebrated the National Education Day here to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Education Minister.
A lecture on “Importance of Education and the Nation’s Commitment to all aspects of Education” was delivered by Gowramma, a professor of education of Regional Institute of Education, NCERT in Bhubaneswar.
Gowramma dwelt upon how Bharat Ratna Moulana Azad strongly advocated universal primary education, free and compulsory education for all children up to the age of 14, vocational training, technical and quality education.
“Azad considered education as the right of one and all. He knew India was a nation with a broad cultural spectrum and hence needed educated citizens to participate in nation-building tasks”, she added.
Vice-Chancellor Sachidananda Mohanty conveyed his best wishes on this occasion. In his message Mohanty underscored the need for education and the nation’s commitment to all aspects of learning. He greeted the university community especially the department of education for hosting the programme.
