Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday attacked national parties for the policies adopted by them have ‘‘spawned a spell of uncertainty in the country’’.
‘‘There is uncertainty in all sectors. The policies adopted by the national parties are responsible for it,’’ the BJD supremo said at a padayatra here without naming the BJP or the Opposition.
Addressing party workers to mark the birth anniversary of Lokanayak Jayprakash Narayan, Patnaik said the attitude of the national parties is inappropriate for the state. ‘‘Time has come for us to work together to achieve democratic values that Jayprakash had fought for,’’ Patnaik said.
BJD has always worked for the welfare of the people in Orissa. The party based on the ideology of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik represents strength of four crore Odiyas. Several BJD leaders also targeted national parties, especially the ruling BJP at the Centre.
BJD spokesperson PK Deb highlighted how Orissa has been ignored in terms of financial aid and in matters relating to its rivers. The BJP national leaders were behaving like CBI spokespersons and their party president during his visit to the state had threatened the regional parties, he pointed out.
The two back to back attacks by the BJD president on national parties is considered a new strategy that the party has adopted to take on the Opposition ahead of the urban polls as well as 2019 assembly and general elections in the state.
The BJP leaders in Orissa, however, rubbished the allegations of the ruling BJD, saying such comments ‘‘mislead the people’’.
