Bhubaneswar: Hours after Goods and Services Tax (GST) rolled out, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday said its implementation should be smooth and take care of all doubts and concerns to benefit the common man, trade, commerce and industry.
“With GST rollout, India transforms into One Nation One Tax One Market. Congratulations to all. Glad that Orissa played an important role in it,” Patnaik tweeted.
Meanwhile, the office of the commissioner of commercial taxes has opened a help desk and toll free helpline number to assist people and traders. People, who have doubts about the GST, can call toll free No. 1800-345-6753, hotline No. 91-8260820848, IT Cell No. 91-671-2304922/2303865 or through e-mail [email protected], said finance special secretary AKK Meena.
Meena urged people and traders not to panic in the face of the new tax regime. “This procedure was initiated for two-three months. A number of workshops have been conducted. But as the notification is made now, we have organised a number of training programmes and workshops for associations, traders. Moreover, they can seek help from the help desk set up by the commercial tax department,” Meena said.
“GST will be a game changer for India which will increase revenue for the country. It will give impetus to Make in India mission. It will be one tax , one country as against the earlier taxation system which had a variety of taxes at different levels. This taxation policy will benefit the local manufacturers and exporters in due course of time,” said NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, who was in the city.
“Inflation will come down further. The country will have more resources to invest in health and education sector,” he added.
Former finance minister Prafulla Ghadei said the revenue generation of states and Centre would increase if it is properly implemented.
