Raipur, Nov 21: A Naxal janmilitia commander, carrying a reward of Rs one lakh, was arrested by Chhattisgarh police from neighbouring Telangana, a senior official said Tuesday.
Acting on a specific input, the cadre Baman Kawasi alias Chaman, 32, was apprehended from Husnabad area in Telangana’s Khammam district Monday, Dantewada Additional Superintendent of Police Gorakhnath Bahgel said.
After receiving the information about the location of Kawasi, a native of Kuwakonda police station area (Dantewada), a local police team was sent to the place, he said.
The ultra was wanted in several Naxal-related incidents and therefore fearing his arrest, he was hiding in Khammam, the ASP said.
In July this year, Kawasi was allegedly involved in the attack on police personnel in Etepal forests after the patrolling team was returning after dismantling a Maoist memorial, he said.
Besides, he was also allegedly involved in other incidents of planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to target troopers, firing on police patrolling team, torching machines and vehicles engaged in construction works, the ASP said adding he was carrying a reward of Rs one lakh on his head.
