post news network, Bhubaneswar, May 27: Every day scores of people visit the State Museum and appreciate the artefacts displayed in its 15 galleries. The recently inaugurated two galleries of the State Museum are, however, generating mixed response from the visitors.
It has been ten days now that the Ornament and the Musical Instrument galleries were unveiled for the people. While around 400 ornaments, of which most are used by the rural and the tribal people of the state, are displayed in the gallery meant for ornaments, the traditional musical instruments of the tribal people are displayed in the other newly inaugurated gallery.
“I have visited the museum earlier also and this time I found two new galleries. The gallery meant for ornaments is very beautiful with all those ornaments from tribal belts like Koya and Kondh,” said Ravi Patnaik, a teacher. Speaking about the gallery on musical instrument he said, “Though I didn’t find much variation in musical instruments that are exhibited in the gallery, but they are very informative”.
Though some people appreciated the inclusion of the two galleries, but there were others, who didn’t find these that interesting. Sanjeev Singh, a visitor from Lucknow said, “The museum is good, but I think they need to do more new things to attract tourists. As I have seen many museums in other states, I didn’t find the state museum that interesting.”
However, the Art and Craft gallery by INTACH, which was also inaugurated on the same day, has not been opened to the public till now.
When asked, Malika Mitra, senior conservator at INTACH said, “The gallery has already been inaugurated on the World Museum Day and we have already submitted the keys to the gallery to the museum authority. They are the only one who can inform about when they are going to open the gallery for public”.
