Madrid: Brazilian footballer Neymar has informed French club Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) management that he doesn’t want to play with Uruguayan Edinson Cavani according to the Spanish media here Wednesday.
The two got involved in a bitter argument during the Ligue-1 match Sunday against Lyon over hitting a penalty kick. Both were seen gesticulating to one another, before Neymar stepped back allowing Cavani to take the shot. But in a development after the match, Neymar has asked the club to sell off Cavani as it is ‘impossible for him to play’ with the Uruguyan.
Cavani has tried to downplay the issue and said that ‘instances of arguments frequently occur on the pitch and it should be left at that’. The crux of the matter, however, is that the Cavani was asked to give an official statement on the issue, Wednesday. He said: “There are no problems between Neymar and me. I fail to understand why this issue is being blown out of proportion. These things frequently happen. We both have put the matter behind us.”
However, in spite of the damage control steps taken by PSG, the situation has not returned to normalcy. The situation turned for the worse when Neymar decided to ‘unfollow’ Cavani from his Instagram account. A couple of newspapers have also reported that Neymar has told the owner of PSG, Nasser Al-Khelaifi to sell off Cavani as it is ‘impossible’ for him to continue with the player.
One will now have to wait and watch to see the steps taken by PSG to diffuse the situation. However, as things stand, sources have said that Neymar is in no mood to relent.
