Kendrapara: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has decided to depute a team of experts for investigation of Kunduli ‘gangrape’ case.
The NHRC took the decision while adjudicating two recent submissions filed by rights activist and lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy Monday last.
Challenging the findings of the Crime Branch report, Tripathy sought a fair probe of the incident with all legal action and heavy compensation to the victim. The petitioner also challenged the Crime branch findings which reported that the girl was not raped.
The petitioner said, “If the victim was not raped then what for she had been shifted from one hospital to other. What was the medical complication she was suffering from?”
Tripathy in another submission stated that there was large scale outrage in the state after inconsistencies in the intermediate and final report of the State Forensic Science Laboratory.
Taking into account all these aspects Justice D Murugesan, member, NHRC, directed a spot enquiry by a team of investigators from the apex rights body within fifteen days.
The commission directed the additional DGP, Human Rights, to submit a report explaining the circumstances under which the victim ended her life.
The panel also directed the authorities to furnish copies of all the reports relating to the case to the enquiry committee. The rights body asked the state government to submit its response within six weeks positively and fixed the next date of hearing February 23 next. PNN
