Cuttack: A boy was accidentally shot at while he and his friend were playing with a gun at High Court Colony under Badambadi police limits here Saturday.
The condition of injured Anubhav Mohanty (12) is stated to be stable and he is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in CDA area.
According to sources, as it was a holiday for second Saturday, Anubhav, who hails from Kamalpur area, had visited the place of his friend Piyush Patra’s (12), a Class VI student, whose father Sushant Patra is an inspector in the Border Security Force (BSF).
While both were playing in the house, Piyush searched for a pen drive to prepare his school project. But incidentally he located his father’s service gun in a bag. Thinking it to be a toy gun, the duo began playing with the loaded pistol. While they were observing every part of the gun, Piyush accidentally pressed the trigger and the bullet hit Anubhav’s head.
Anubhav collapsed on the floor. Seeing Anubhav bleeding profusely, Piyush cried out aloud. Hearing his screams, Piyush’s parents who were on the ground floor at that time rushed to the scene and found Anubhav in a pool of blood. Patra immediately rushed the Anubhav to SCB Medical College and Hospital on his motorcycle.
The doctor at SCB after preliminary treatment performed the scanning of the injury parts and found that the bullet came out after hitting Anubhav’s head. The family members took the boy to a private hospital in CDA area.
Later, Badambadi police visited Patra’s house and during inquiry found that it was a 7.65mm licenced pistol. However, the police detained Patra for keeping the gun loaded and further questioning is underway. The police have seized the gun along with the remaining ammunition.
The doctors performed a surgery of the injured boy’s head in the evening.
