Niali: The killing of sheep by unknown creatures is unabated in several villages in the block with three more falling prey to the predators Tuesday night.
The yet-to-be-identified creatures attacked and killed three sheep belonging to Tukuna Swain of Ghodatikili here late Tuesday night. On being informed, a team of Forest department officials rushed to the village while the veterinary officer conducted post-mortem of the carcasses.
Four months back, the unknown creatures had killed over 300 sheep in different villages in the block triggering widespread resentment among the poor farmers. After a brief lull, the unknown creatures again began attacking the sheep from November 18. So far it attacked and killed nearly 35 sheep in the recent days.
While rampant killing of sheep have spread panic among the farmers, several questions are being raised over the suspected predators. The locals alleged despite their repeated demands to immediately nab the unknown creatures, the administration is sitting idle.
Sources said the government is providing `2,000 compensation for death of each sheep.
