Cuttack: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has expressed its readiness to probe the alleged posting of some girl students’ photos on an obscene website in 2002.
“We are ready to probe the alleged uploading of girl students’ photographs and addresses on an obscene website if the case is handed over to us,” said the CBI in an affidavit filed in the HC Wednesday.
A division bench of Justices Bishwajit Mohanty and Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi directed the Crime Branch to file a report on the status of investigation into the sensitive issue. The bench posted the next hearing to December 19.
Photos and addresses of several girls of three prominent educational institutions of the state were posted on an obscene website, allegedly opened by an American citizen Michael Singh in 2002. Several complaints were filed with police in connection with the incident.
Some social activists had filed a PIL in the HC and urged it to order a CBI or CB probe into the sensitive issue. Subsequently, the state government had asked the CB to investigate the incident. However, the investigating agency has failed to make any breakthrough in the case.
