Padmapur: Even as biodiversity all over the world is disturbed by growing pollution level and ballooning population, water resources are under stress and are going to be scarce in a few decades. Water crisis is looming large faster in some areas while the humanity is predicted to face harsh conditions due to the scarcity.
Keeping such a scenario in mind, Dr Pragyana Ranjan Rout, a young scientist from Kodabatia of Rajagharpokhari panchayat under Basudevpur block of Bhadrak district, has developed a mechanism to deal with such condition.
His research entails how to treat/filter water from household waste and sewer through a bioreactor. The water will be drinkable and usable for humans. His research has been presented at 14 national and international conferences and drawn accolades.
For his innovation, Odisha Bigyan Academy has honoured him as the Young Scientist of the Year 2017. It is learnt that for higher research on bioreactor, Rout will leave for South Korea in September. With a PhD in Environmental Science, he will join as a research professor at Inha University, Incheon.
Born to Paramananda Rout and Manorama Rout, he was drawn towards science in childhood. He did his B Tech from Biju Patnaik University of Technology and M Tech from NIT Rourkela.
Later, he completed his PhD in Environmental Science.
