Bhubaneswar, July 2: The Ekamra Walk this week was made special by the sportive presence of Olly the mascot of Asian Athletics Championship. Olly cheered the 36 participants from Mukteswar Temple where the walk started. Olly represents the olive ridley turtle, a marine species that nests en masse along the coastline of Orissa. 800 athletes from 45 nations are competing at AAC2017, to be held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from July 5-9. Before commencing on the walk, the participants were treated to a special flute recital by Jagat, which also served as a musical welcome to AAC-2017. Debashish Sarangi, a regular at the Ekamra Walks said Olly’s visit was a great gesture on the part of civic and tourism authorities as it would promote not only the heritage walk but also the athletic
meet and complemented each other. He also said that such international games as AAC-2017, not only help in promoting the tourist potential of the area, but also provide platforms for exchange of cultural ideas and traditions. Among others, Director Tourism, Nitin Bhanudas Jawle, attended the walk. He wished the AAC-2017 all success. Olly also took part in a selfies session with the participants of Ekamra Walk. The walk covered Mukteswar temple, Parsurameswar temple, Sampurna Jaleswar temple, Kotitirtheswar temple, Bindu Sagar, Ananta Vasudeb temple, Lingaraj temple, Sari temple, Mohini temple and culminated at Ekamra Van. They were also entertained with an Odissi recital at Art Vision, an institute run by Illeana Citaristi, the Odissi and Chhau exponent.
