Bhubaneswar, June 29: Unhappy with the ‘mere’ expulsion of Papu Pom Pom from Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Opposition Congress and BJP Wednesday trained their guns on BJD government for the failure of police to nab the comedian who is on the run after being charged with casting couch scam.
“Police investigations are done in a way to facilitate the escape of ruling party leaders,” said Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra before reporters.
Mishra also alleged the state government attempted to wipe out evidence to save BJD leaders.
BJP leader and state unit general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan also questioned Papu’s alleged missing act and said, “This proves the ruling party has patronised people with criminal antecedents.”
Meanwhile, sources in the BJD said the expulsion of Papu Pom Pom has led to fingers being raised at other actor-turned BJD politicians whose names have figured in the chit fund scam.
Sources said pressure is mounting from Congress and BJP on the ruling party to act against star-turned-politicians in the party, some of whom are MPs and MLAs, for their alleged nexus with chit fund scamstars.
BJD leader Amar Satpathy, meanwhile, refuted the allegations saying the party has always taken stern action against persons who indulge in wrongdoing. He further said the party president will spare none involved in such acts.
