Bhubaneswar: Orissa women’s team emerged champions in the Senior National Rugby Sevens Championships after beating West Bengal 15-5 in the final in Patna, Sunday.
Orissa dominated the match completely. Star players Subhalaxmi Barik scored 10 points, while Hupi Majhi scored five points.
Earlier in the first semifinal Orissa had thrashed Bihar 26-0. Hupi, Subhalaxmi and Mira were the star performers for Orissa scoring 15, five and six points respectively.
In the second semifinal West Bengal had spanked Maharashtra 26-0 to enter final.
Ashok clinches title
Kumar Ashok of Bhubaneswar clinched the State Open Rapid Chess Championship title with 6.5 points after the completion of the seventh and the final round. Tanmaya Kumar emerged runner-up with six points in his kitty. Amarandra Khamari garnered the same number of points, but he had to be satisfied with the third place finish on the basis of tie-breaker.
Anirudha, Yasita lead
Anirudha Sahoo of Cuttack and Yashita Rout of Khurda are leading the pack in the open and the girls’ categories respectively in the State U-9 Chess Championship in Cuttack, Sunday. Both Anirudha and Yashita have garnered five points each after the completion of the fifth round.
Trial camp
Football Association of Orissa (FAO) will be conducting a preparatory-cum selection trial camp of Orissa State Sub-Junior Girl’s football team for National Football Championship 2017-18 at Cuttack, August 17. The championship, which is scheduled to take place in the month of September, will be conducted by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
