Bhubaneswar: Orissa fighters performed splendidly to win three gold medals in the recently concluded Fitness Expo and Martial Arts Championship in Mumbai.
Satyabrata Behuria won two yellow metals in the (-57kg) category of grappling and (-60kg) category of the mixed martial arts event. Srikant Sekhar bagged the gold medal in the (-80 kg) category in grappling.
Orissa Mixed Martial Arts Association (OMMAA) members congratulated both the fighters for their grand success.
Payal bags gold
Payal Baral clinched a gold medal in the women’s -68kg fight category at the National Senior Karate Championships which concluded Sunday night in Kolkata. This was Orissa’s second gold at the meet with Valena Valentina having topped the Kata event.
Yazdani emerge champs
Yazdani-73 Club, Bhubaneswar emerged champions in the State Level Football Championships beating Chand Club, Cuttack 2-0 via tie-breaker in the final at Cuttack, Sunday.
The match ended goalless in the stipulated time. In the ensuing shootout Yazdani-73 converted two of their five chances, while Chand Club wasted all shots. Dikhsyam Bagi was adjudged the player of the final while Rent Murmu bagged the best player of the tournament award.
Orissa finish runners-up
Orissa finished runners-up with a total of 36 medals including eight gold, 16 silver and 12 bronze in the 28th National Kayaking and Canoeing Championships at Bhopal, Sunday. Madhya Pradesh emerged champions in the competition. Thirty one players from Orissa participated in the meet.
