Bhubaneswar: Orissa finished second with 53 points in the Bridge Tournament organised by BSNL here Monday. Rajasthan took the top honours with 60 points, while Gujarat finished third with 43 points. Each of the five participating states was represented by eight players each.
Akash, Raghunath lead 2nd innings fightback
Orissa recovered from their first innings debacle to produce a much improved performance in the second innings scoring 133/3 in their Cooch Behar trophy match against Chhattisgarh in Bhilai, Monday. They still trail the hosts by 41 runs after Chhattisgarh scored 239 in their first innings in reply to Orissa’s 65 all out. Akash Nayak (46 batting) and Raghunath Malla (22 batting) were at the crease at stumps.
Naved Ali (71, 141b, 8×4, 2×6) batted well for the hosts and it was his effort that enabled them to post a 230-plus total. Krishna Palai(3/57) was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.
Siba officiates in ISL
Referee Siba Sankar Panda became the first Oriya to officiate in a match of the ISL when he supervised the game between Chennaiyin FC and Goa FC in ISL-IV at Chennai, Sunday. He is a national level category one referee of All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Two selected
Two shuttlers from Orissa have been named in the Indian team for the World Para Badminton Championship at Korea, November 20-27. They are Pramod Bhagat and Sunil Pradhan. Pramod had bagged a gold in singles and a silver in the doubles events of the last edition.
