New Delhi: Union Railways minister Suresh Prabhu Wednesday told the Lok Sabha that the budgetary allocation for Orissa in the railway sector has increased by 400 per cent.
Responding to a BJD member’s question about the delay in disbursement of funds for Orissa towards construction of over bridges at railway crossings, Prabhu said, “I will look into the funding issue. The Railways has increased the budgetary allocation to Orissa by 400 per cent. Many level crossings are important urban development issues for which we need inputs from states so that we can work together.”
Prabhu said usually the states delay in funds allocation in matters of joint rail projects, but he was glad to hear that Orissa government has disbursed the funds for the projects raised in the House.
Earlier, Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda (BJD) raised the issue during the question hour.
Panda said, ’’There are 20 joint projects at railway crossings. Orissa has disbursed funds for these projects but there have been delays from the Centre which has slowed down the pace of work.”
Panda asked the minister if such fundings for railway safety could be expedited. Panda also thanked the Prime Minister for offering special corpus for passenger safety in the railway budget.
