Bhubaneswar: Orissa Karatekas proved their supremacy as they bagged finished with 30 medals including 10 golds on the third and concluding day of the VIIIth All India Open Karate Championships, at the Utkal Karate School here Sunday. Orissa had won 11 and nine gold medals on the first and second day of the competition.
Orissa finished on top of the medals tally while Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal finished second and third respectively.
On the third and the final day of the event Lipsi Mahananda emerged champion in the women’s black belt kumite event, while Dipteemayee Mallick took the top honours in the women’s black belt kata event. Deepak Kumar Muduli emerged victorious in the senior male below 84kg kumite event and Jagannath Sahu clinched the title in the senior male below 60kg kumite event. Dillip Jena bagged a gold medal in the senior male below 67kg kumite segment, while Sindhu Tanaya Khuntia clinched the yellow metal in the senior female below 45 kg kumite event.
Krishna Shikari triumphed in the senior male black belt kata event. Anuradha Patra, Anupama Swain and Priyadarshini Ghatuari emerged champions in various other age category kumite events.
NALCO CMD Tapan Chand was present as chief guest and distributed the prizes.
