Cuttack: Hosts Orissa played out an exciting 1-1 draw with SAI in an East Zone qualifying match of the Sub-Junior National Boys’ football championships at the Ravenshaw University Ground here Saturday.
Orissa opened their account in the 19th minute through Purusotam Kerketa and the hosts maintained their lead at the interval. After the change of ends SAI upped the ante and Isaac restored parity a minute into the half.
Orissa however, could have won the game had their strikers not missed a number of chances that came their way midway into the second period.
AG script huge win
AG Recreation Club registered a 169-run win over ELOXI in a match of the E-League cricket at the IMMT Ground in Bhubaneswar, Saturday.
Batting first, AG scored 229 for eight in 40 overs. Debashis Samantray (93) emerged top-scorer for AG while Partha Pani (3/29) was the most successful bowler for ELOXI. In reply, ELOXI were bundled out for 60 in 24.1 overs with man of the match Aman Shastri (5/27) turning out to be the wrecker-in-chief.
Good day for Puri
Puri won both their matches in the men’s and the women’s categories of the 17th State Sepak Takraw tournament at Berhampur, Saturday.
In the women’s category, Puri defeated Puri Town 2-0, while KISS beat Jagatsinghapur by an identical margin. In the men’s category, Puri edged out Dhenkanal 2-0 and Malkangiri defeated Nayagarh 2-0.
Fine achievement
Akshaya Das of Orissa has successfully completed the AFC A license football coaching course at Mumbai. Akshay is now working as one of the coaches in Tata Football Academy.
