Bhubaneswar: An Oriya film actor Monday lodged a complaint with Mancheswar police alleging her businessman husband was physically assaulting her.
Sweta Mohapatra alias Khatun of Tollygunge, Kolkata, who has acted in several Bengali and Oriya films, lodged a complaint with Mancheswar police against her husband Birat Mohapatra alleging he was physically assaulting her and had confined her in their rented accommodation near Hi-tech Medical Square.
“I had earlier married a Muslim, but after coming to know about his criminal antecedents, I left him. I have a three-year-old daughter from him. Birat of Pipili, who runs furniture shops, contacted me through a Kolkata-based man in February 2016 to act in an Oriya film financed by him. I then came to Bhubaneswar and started working for film ‘Jhil Ki Jhupa’ financed by Birat. In the course of its production, Birat convinced me to marry him despite knowing I was a divorcee,” she said.
“We then tied the knot in a temple in March 2016. However, two months after my marriage, I came to know that Birat had married a woman 10 years back and has a son. I also got pregnant two times in September, 2016 and November, 2016, but he forced me to abort. He then asked me to join a dance bar in a hotel in Mancheswar in January 2017 and he used to collect the money I earned from there. He has been physically assaulting me for the past two months, and February 8, 2017, he attacked my left hand with a blunt object. He then took me to a hospital in Pipli,” Mohapatra added.
The complainant was taken to police station by the officials of Ruchika social organisation.
‘‘I have all proof of getting married to him at a temple. If needed, I will provide it to the police,’’ she said seeking security as she feels threat to her life.
Meanwhile, the police said they were looking into the matter and would take appropriate action.
