Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: Shaunak Parikh emerged victorious in the Mercedes Trophy qualifier golf tournament at the Bhubaneswar Golf Club (BGC) here Friday. By virtue of his victory, Parikh qualified for the 16th Mercedes Trophy national finals which will played at the Oxford Golf and Country Club, Pune in March. Approximately 50 local players took part in the one-day event.
Facile wins
Hockey Orissa and Hockey Gangpur registered back to back wins in the league round matches of the VIth National Sub-Junior Girls’ Division-A Hockey Championship at Rohtak, Friday.
Hockey Orissa thrashed Chhattisgarh Hockey 10-1 in a Pool C match. Abinasi Mukti Surin and Bimla Barwa struck hat-tricks. In a Pool-D clash, Hockey Gangpur spanked Hockey Andhra Pradesh 14-1. Jiwan Kishori Toppo scored four goals including a hat-trick.
RSPB-A take sole lead
Railway Sports Promotion Board-A(RSPB-A) were leading the pack with 12 points after the end of the seventh round of the 14th National Team Chess Championships at the KIIT School of Law here Friday. RSPB-A are closely followed by Air Port Authority of India and Petroleum Sports Promotion Board with 11 points each. Air India and Gujarat are sharing the joint third spot with 10 points apiece.
Orissa eliminated
Orissa were eliminated from the Santosh Trophy football tournament after losing 0-3 to Bengal at the Zonal League match at Kalyani, Friday. The first half of the match was goalless, but Bengal dominated the second half completely and scored three goals.
