Puri: The district administration has decided to ban parking of vehicles on the Grand Road during this year’s Rath Yatra.
The district administration and the civic body will jointly develop designated parking lots for the devotees during the annual mega event. A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by additional collector Bibhuti Bhusan Das recently.
“No vehicle will be allowed to be parked on the Grand Road which is considered as part of the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway. The district administration will identify suitable places for the purpose during the upcoming Rath Yatra. City’s municipal authorities will develop the parking lots,” said an official of the district administration.
Vehicles including buses and cars were parked on a few grounds near Bhudan Nagar, Talabania, indoor stadium, helipad and SCS College during last year’s car festival. However, bikers were allowed to park their vehicles on the Grand Road.
“The administration has constituted a traffic management committee to identify suitable places near the Grand Road for parking of vehicles during Rath Yatra. Private parties will be roped in by the civic body to manage the parking lots,” the official added.
