Bargarh, Jan 24: A day after a complaint alleging irregularities in distribution of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice from a Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) godown was lodged at the local police station, police Saturday sealed the godown located at the Cattle Market here.
After the godown was sealed in the presence of Bheden Block Development Officer Prabhas Dansana, who acted as a magistrate and other senior officials from the Food Corporation of India (FCI), CWC and the Orissa State Civil Supplies Corporation (OSCSC), its management was handed over to the civil supplies department.
Sources said a team of officials from police, civil supplies and other departments arrived at the CWC godown at 2 pm and verified its stocks and register. During the inquiry, which lasted for about four hours, the investigators seized the registers that gave some clues about the irregularities. Later, CWC manager JK Sen was brought to the town police station where he was interrogated in connection with the irregularities. SP Umashankar Das also reached the police station at 7 pm and questioned the officials regarding the wrongdoing. Meanwhile, mudslinging started between the officials of FCI and CWC over the issue with both the sides accusing each other of wronging causing a loss of `1.71 crore.
