New Delhi: The Ministry of Labour and Employment Tuesday applauded the Orissa government’s initiative to support the Platform for Effective Enforcement for No Child Labour (PENCIL) Portal which can pave way for deterring child labour.
The portal which was launched Tuesday by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi empowers the citizens to report cases of child labour online. They would be resolved in a fixed time frame by the district level nodal officers in the state.
While launching the project, the ministry cited the examples of Orissa, Meghalaya and other selected states which have already appointed the district nodal officers who can take care of the cases of child labourers in the country.
“States like Orissa have given us their names of the nodal officers who will work under the PENCIL scheme and help lead the fight against child labour in the country. The portal will help in tackling the cases from local levels and converge the districts, states with the Centre,” Rajiv Arora, Joint Secretary at the ministry, said.
