Simulia: A minor physically challenged boy of Baniasahi in the Andarai panchayat under Balasore district’s Simulia block is not getting the government help he is entitled to.
Priya Ranjan Das, (17), son of Akshaya Das and Sarojini Das, is affected by paralysis and arthritis and is bed-ridden. His parents being poor are unable to provide him treatment.
The couple said their son has 85 per cent disability and the disability certificate came at a cost. “We had to pay Rs 600 to an official at the district headquarters hospital for the disability certificate. Besides, we had to spend Rs 100 at the Jana Seve Kendra to get an Aadhaar card for Priyaranjan.”
The parents survive by working as labourers. Earlier, the family used to get Rs 10 kg subsidised rice, but that was stopped in 2015.
The couple said that Priyaranjan gets Rs 3,000 annually under the Banishree scheme from a school as he is enrolled there. They demanded government help for the treatment of their son. PNN
