Balasore: Tension gripped Balasore Railway Station after members of the ‘Go Surakshya Samiti’ stopped the Pondicherry-Howrah Express over alleged cattle smuggling Thursday night.
Alleging that 30 cattle were being transported to Howrah, the Samiti members stopped the train at Balasore railway station. However, after a few hours, the train was allowed to resume its journey.
The train was allowed to leave the station only after the members inspected relevant transportation documents. “The train arrived at 8:12pm. It left the station at 12:35am after all the relevant documents were checked by the protestors,” said station manager Bhagabat Das.
Among others superintendent of police and many railway police officials were present at the spot to avoid any untoward incident.
Sources said the train was also halted by Bajrang Dal activists at Bhubaneswar railway station earlier in the day.
