Rayagada, June 17: Chairperson of National Commission for Women (NCW) has sought an extensive report from SP K Shiva Subramani over an issue in which a pregnant woman was pushed by her husband from the train near Rauli railway station between Rayagada and Tikiri over a trivial issue.
The commission asked the police to submit a detailed report about the incident and wanted to know why action has not been taken against the accused so far. The police have also been asked to state about the measures taken in the incident and backdrop.
According to reports, Suroj Kerketa (30), a sales executive of a private company of Bargaon in Sundargarh district along with his pregnant wife Sarojini Kerketa (25) were on their way to Rourkela from Koraput May 26 in Samaleswari Express.
During the journey, Sarojini resisted her husband when he was talking to an unknown girl in the train. Following this, an angry Suroj pushed her off the train leaving her on the rail track.
As a result, Sarojini’s labour pain started and she delivered a baby boy. However, the baby died immediately.
Railway staffers spotted Sarojini on the track and informed Rayagada railway protection force about it. She was rushed to district headquarters hospital and her family members were informed. Later, Sarojini was shifted to Burla-based VSS Medical College and Hospital as her condition
worsened.
Though a police team from Tikiri started conducting raids on several places of Rourkela, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh to arrest Suroj, they failed to get success even after 22 days of the incident.
Sarojini is still undergoing treatment at Burla and efforts are on to nab the accused, Tikiri inspector in-charge Renuka Suna said. When contacted, SP Subramani also said, special police teams have been raiding various places and the accused would be held soon.
