Puri: Rajesh Nayak of Puri emerged champion in the All Orissa Open Chess tournament which concluded at a city hotel here Sunday.
Rajesh finished with eight points while Rajendra Kumar Sahu (7.5 points) of Khurda finished second. Vaibhav Mishra , Manoj Kumar Panigrahi, both from Puri and Ansuman Samal of Cuttack (all seven points each) finished in third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Orissa in command
Rajesh Mohanty (5/59) of Orissa wrecked havoc to leave Jharkhand reeling on 227/9 at the end of first day’s play of their U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match here at the Vikas Ground in Bargarh, Sunday.
Put into bat, Jharkhand made a disastrous start losing their top three wickets for just 20 runs. Shresht Sagar (33) along with skipper Atul Singh Surwar (19) steadied the ship with a 46-run partnership for the fourth wicket before the later’s departure.
Amar Kumar Choudhury (48) and Vivek Anand Tiwary (34) then played a good hand down the order to take the score past the 200-run mark. For the hosts, Rajesh was ably supported by Shibasish Sahoo (2/19).

Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) announced Sunday, a 15-member squad for the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy match against Tripura at the Nimpur Ground in Cuttack, December 19-21.
