Bhubaneswar: Rakesh Kumar Jena of Jajpur has achieved the International Masters (IM) title according to a report of the World Chess Federation (FIDE). Rakesh was proclaimed an IM at in the recently-concluded FIDE Congress at Antalya, Turkey.
In another development, Tapas Kumar Mohanty of Cuttack also became an International Arbitrator (IA) while Bhabesh Mohanty and Santosh Kumar Mohapatra got arbitrator norms.
Anusman, Yashaswini triumh
Ansuman Samal and Yashaswini Sarangi of Cuttack emerged champions in the boys’ and the girls’ events of the Orissa State Schools’ Chess Championships, which concluded at Nayagarh, Saturday.
In the boys’ category, Ansuman took the top honours with of 6.5 points from seven rounds. Manindra Karhee of Bhubaneswar emerged runner-up with six points in his kitty. His citymate Binod Kanhar finished third with 5.5 points.
In the girls’ segment Yashaswini remained unbeaten throughout the tournament finishing with six points from six rounds. Uma Dalapati of Bhubaneswar finished second with five points. Digij Soren also got the same number of points, but she had to be satisfied with the third place finish on the basis of Buchholz tie-breaker score.
