Rourkela: Local BJP MLA Dillip Ray has tried to put things straight by demanding work order for construction of a second bridge across Brahmani before laying the foundation stone for the project here Saturday.
Ray said this while visiting the foundation stone laying site with party leaders Saturday. Preparations are in full swing for foundation stone laying for the project by Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari in presence of Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram and Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan July 21. The ceremony will be held at a ground near Ruptola slum in Balughat.
Ray said the laying of foundation stone is meaningless if work order is not issued as it will result in unnecessary delay in construction of the project and raise questions over transparency in work.
He urged that at least the work order should be issued before laying the foundation stone for the project. It is learnt that the work order on the project is likely to be issued July 17.
Meanwhile, changes have been made in the construction plan of the second bridge. The authorities have changed the direction of the bridge which was earlier planned to pass through Panposh slum. The bridge which will start from TCI Square in Vedvyas, will connect the National Highway near BNR weighbridge at Balughat.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to the city April 1, 2014, had announced that the construction of a second bridge across Brahmani will begin soon. Later, inordinate delay in the construction sparked sharp resentment among the residents.
Various social outfits and political parties voiced their opposition over the delay in the project execution. Ray had also expressed his resentment over the delay and boycotted various programmes organised by his party. PNN
