Manchester: Alexis Sanchez became Monday the highest paid English Premier League player after Manchester United signed him at a salary of £350,000-a-week, which incidentally will be 60,000 pounds higher than what Paul Pogba – the current top grosser earns. In a swap deal Arsenal also got Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
According to British media reports, Sanchez, will don the United’s iconic No.7 shirt and has joined the club on a four-and-half-year deal, while Armenia captain Mkhitaryan has signed a long-term contract with the Gunners, a club statement said.
“I am very thrilled to join the biggest club in the world. It was my dream to play for Manchester United and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down,” Sanchez said. During his tenure at Arsenal, the Chilean scored 80 goals in 166 games in all competitions.
United manager Mourinho was all praise for Sanchez and said that the Chilean will complete their young and talented group of attacking players. “He will bring his ambition, drive and personality – qualities that make a Manchester United player and a player that makes the team stronger,” stated Mourinho.
On the other hand, Mkhitaryan was highly delighted to join the Gunners. “I’m very happy to be here (Arsenal). I’ve always dreamed of playing for Arsenal and now that I’m here, I’ll do my best for this club to create history,” said the Armenian who scored only five goals in 39 appearances during his 18-month spell at Old Trafford.
