Report sought on BDA construction

Cuttack: Orissa High Court Tuesday issued a notice to the state government asking it to submit a reply over construction of a building at Godanda in Patia area by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) which was strongly opposed by the residents of Godanda.
Acting on a petition filed by Kuna Kumar Jena, a division bench of Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi directed the state government and other parties to the case to submit their replies within four weeks.
According to the petition, the BDA has started construction of a residential apartment on a four-acre land (Plot. No. 406) at Godanda, which was acquired by the authorities on the pretext of developing the area. Earlier the land was used by villages for agricultural purpose, but the BDA has started constructing a boundary wall on the land.
The petitioner has alleged that an influential person has acquired another large portion of the land which was earlier used by the villagers as a road. Despite several plaints, the BDA authorities did not take any action to remove the encroachment from the government land, the petition stated.
The petitioner urged the HC to impose a stay on the construction of the boundary wall being constructed by BDA and direct the authorities concerned to remove the encroachment from the area.
