New Delhi: Rising Student Club of Orissa thrashed FC Pune City 5-0 in a match of the inaugural edition of the I-League here Sunday. The victory enabled the Orissa side to regain the top spot in the six-team league table. They currently have nine points from four games and have more or less guaranteed themselves a place in the semifinals.
A first half brace from Jabamani Tudu (first, 15th), a strike from Anju Tamang (44th) and a second period double from Sasmita Malik (47th, 73rd) enabled Rising Student to win by a handsome margin.
Rising Student stunned FC Pune City with an early strike when Tudu’s back-header bounced over an onrushing opposition custodian and ended in the back of the net.
Tudu came into play yet again in the 15th minute, when her ferocious shot from just outside the box beat the Pune goalie hands down. Then Tamang took advantage of a faulty clearance by Pune and poked home the third goal.
Rising Student were awarded a penalty in the 47th minute when Laura handed the ball inside the penalty box. AIFF Women’s Player of the Year Sasmita slotted it with ease to make it 4-0 and then added gloss to the scoreline with another superb strike.
